Bandages

They support and protect tendons during (exercise and polo bandages) and after (stable bandages) effort. A certain experience is required to use them. A wrong laying of bandages can damage tendons...

Placing working bands

1. Start to lay the bandage right under the knee.
Put it from the top to the bottom and diagonally.

2. Then go up again to the top. The bandage and the wrap should not present any fold in order not to provoque any pressure.

3. The bandage should stop 2 cm under the superior edge of the wrap.
The closure is fastened on the outside of the leg.

The différent types of bandages

  Polo bandages (exercise bandages)

Are used at work, without leg pads, very easy to lay on the leg (without risks). Ideal for horses with sensitive skin.

 Stable bandages

Stable bandages are used in the stable or during transport, but never when riding. They are always laid with wraps. They aim at resting the legs and they are used either after an intense work, or every evening on horses that present synovia extravasation for instance. They are also used during transport, alone or under shipping boots. In that case they donít only aim at resting the legs, but also at protecting them against shocks.
They are less elastic than exercise or polo bandages and are manufactured in a more ìwoolyî fabric. They are available in several lengths and you generally use shorter bandages for forelegs (3,5 m or 4 m) than for hindlegs (5 m or 6 m).

 Bandage pads

Bandage pads are placed under the stable bandages and eventually, but more rarely, under exercise bandages (HAMPA protections for instance). They absorb shocks, they warm and keep from folds due to wrong laying of the bandages. They are more or less thick, depended on the use, and some of them (like 540 622 or 540 630 for instance) can first be wet and impregnated with care products. Bandage pads for fore legs are smaller than those for hind legs.
