Rider protection

Riding helmets : the new CE standards, airbags, body protectors back protectors

Helmet

To obtain the CE stamp, products have to be tested by to one of the agreed European laboratory. Compared to the former riding hats, CE products can be recognised by :

Firstly, they have a fixation harness to avoid any risk of loosing.

Secondly, a supple peak or no peak at all to avoid noze fractures in case the hat would slide forwards.

Thirdly, the most important point compared to the former models, they must have a polystyrene crown or anything other thick or shock absorbent enough material to pass the shock absorbing tests.

The riding hats which don't have these different elements are considered as a traditional hat and not as a head protection
The BELSTAR brand has decided not to sell any traditional hat and to manufacture only head protection conform to the CE standard

The Airbag jacket

By absorbing the impact of a fall, the Airbag waistcoat protects the neck in all three directions, the back and spine, the pelvis, the hips, the thorax, the ribs and the vital organs.
It is equipped with a gas cartridge with a priming cord, which is attached by a snap hook to the ring of a saddle clamp that attaches to the stirrup leathers.

In the event of a fall, the force exerted on the cord will detach the priming cord, which will activate the perforation of the cartridge and release the gas towards the air cushions composed of polyurethane sheaths... in less than 1/10th of a second.

Back protector

Effective and lightweight back protection, guaranteeing good shock absorption.

Perfect for all levels of riding, it adjusts to the rider's curves, providing unequalled comfort.

Please note: it cannot replace a protective waistcoat that complies with the EN 13158:2009 standard, which is suitable for equestrian sports.

Body protector

Safe, light and flexible, the body protector combines all the qualities of good protection for horse riding.

It is usually equipped with a practical and fast front zip. It fits the rider perfectly thanks to its hook and loop fasteners at the ribs and shoulders, which allow a more precise adjustment.

The ribs are very tightly wrapped and guarantee maximum protection against shocks.

To be worn in eventing competition, the waistcoat must comply with the European standard EN13158:2009 level 3 (standard applicable to protective waistcoats used in equestrian sports) and Standard Beta Level 3 and certified by Intertek UK.
