Manage winter constraints

Your equipment deserves some consideration. Here are some tips to do hibernate in the best conditions : How to face winter

Helmet

Even though the example is not recommended, some riders choose to ride without helmet if not on a competition. And often this helmet will be stored in a garage or a shed. To prevent the possible deterioration due to the dampness, the best thing is to fill it with newspapers, then place it in a plastic bag to protect the outer coating.

Leather accessories

To bring your leather accessories out again three months later, flexible and with no mould, without needing to treat them, apply some neat's hoof oil on them, then place them in a newspaper slightly soaked in the same product before closing the whole in a closed plastic bag.

  

Boots

to store the boots, fill them with newspapers, so that dampness is absorbed by the paper and not by the leather or the lining tissue. If you own leather boots, wax them on the seams. The wax in excess will allow to nourish the leather during the winter. Otherwise, slightly apply neat's hoof oil on them before placing the whole in a plastic bag.
To know : If possible, store your material hanged, to avoid mice attacks. Otherwise, surround all bags with rat poison and regularly check them.
